Sarah Bowman, MS, NCC, LPC
Psychotherapist
I am excited to bring my compassionate and nonjudgmental counseling style to Skidmore Counseling, where I support individuals and couples in feeling empowered to make meaningful, positive changes in their lives. My approach is rooted in helping clients find acceptance in the present while gently confronting behaviors and thought patterns that are no longer serving them.
Creating a safe, supportive, and collaborative space is central to my work. I believe healing happens when clients feel understood and secure enough to explore both current and past experiences. Together, we work to identify patterns in relationships and life experiences over time, fostering greater insight, growth, and emotional well-being. I strongly believe that every person is capable of change, and I am honored to guide clients through their challenges using evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
I enjoy working with teens, young adults, new mothers, couples, and middle-aged adults. I have experience supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, major life transitions, postpartum depression and related disorders, self-esteem concerns, PTSD, and other trauma-related experiences. I offer career coaching and grief-related concerns.
In my work with couples, I draw heavily from the Gottman Principles of Effective Couples Therapy to help partners strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and deepen emotional connection. I support couples in understanding negative interaction patterns, managing conflict more effectively, and fostering empathy and mutual respect. My goal is to help both partners feel heard and supported while developing practical tools to build a more secure and fulfilling relationship.
My clinical approach integrates evidence-based modalities tailored to each client’s unique needs, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness and self-compassion–based trauma treatments, attachment-based therapy, and the Gottman Principles of Effective Couples Therapy. Through this integrative approach, my goal is to help clients build resilience, deepen self-understanding, and move toward a healthier, more fulfilling life.
